We supply both batik tulis and batik cap. Fully handmade batik or Batik ‘Tulis’ is where the wax resist is all applied by hand. This method is very time consuming, expensive and is only suitable for small production quantities. The invention of the copper block or cap (tjap) developed by the indigenous Javanese in the early 20th century revolutionized batik production. It became possible to make high-quality designs and intricate, complex patterns much faster than one could possibly do by hand-painting alone. This method of using a copper block to apply a melted wax pattern is called Batik Cap (pronounced "chap").
